The Metchosin & West Shore Farm to Fork Map & Directory
Our Farm to Fork Map is intended to help connect more people with local food and our growing region’s terrific food producers and processors, events and opportunities to learn how to grow, prepare and preserve more of your own foods, too!
The map is one component of ReImagine’s Farm to Fork Initiative, a community-wide endeavour inviting individuals, families, and organizations to become active participants in the local food movement. It emphasizes that together, we can bite back to improve access to healthy food, support local economies, and cultivate community spirit.
The Farm to Fork Initiative is a community food security collaboration with the District of Metchosin, City of Colwood, the RUSH Initiative, University of Victoria’s Geography Department and other community groups passionate about local agriculture and food.

BACKGROUND: Bite Back - "Farm to Fork" Initiative Takes Aim at Local Food Security
ReImagine West Shore launched our 2025 “Farm to Fork” initiative with West Shore Seedy Saturday on March 8th at Belmont Secondary School in Langford.
Farm to Fork is focused on boosting our region’s food security. This collaborative, community project aims to connect local farmers, producers, and consumers while also empowering residents to grow and enjoy their own fresh produce.
We’re sowing the seeds of change, enriching our lives with local flavours, and growing a sustainable food future together!
Key Features of the Initiative:
West Shore Seedy Saturday: 2nd Annual West Shore Seedy Saturday on March 8 at Belmont Secondary School, where folks had an opportunity to buy seeds and plant starts for the season, exchange seeds with fellow community members, learn the basics of growing your own produce, listen to expert speakers, and discover the joys and $avings that come with home-grown food. A collaboration with Flourish! School Food Society.
Community Mapping Happenings: The RUSH/UVic Mapping Team was in the community during the first quarter to conduct mapping happenings, which helped identify and plot farms, farm gates, producers, community gardens, pollinator gardens, and food-supporting spots on the growing West Shore! This outreach fed our Farm to Fork Map and helped RUSH to add more spots on their “Eat Local” map, where people can see how local food and agriculture intersect with our watersheds and social scene in a multitude of ways!
The mapping initiative is a collaborative effort to highlight and utilize the resources our community offers in support of local food and agriculture. A collaboration with the RUSH Initiative and the University of Victoria’s Department of Geography (The Map Shop).
Metchosin/West Shore Farm to Fork Map & Local Food Event Calendar: Sharing vital inputs from the Mapping Happenings and our online outreach, we’ll be sharing our map (online and in print) over the summer to help folks discover the rich tapestry of farms, producers and other local food assets. The map will serve as a vital tool in supporting our local agriculture economy, helping customers make informed choices that are good for both their health and their wallets. A collaboration with the District of Metchosin’s Agriculture Advisory Select Committee, Metchosin Grown Society, the RUSH Initiative and others.
West Shore Tomato Challenge: Whether you’re a green thumb or a gardening novice, our Tomato Challenge will show you just how simple and rewarding it is to cultivate your own tomatoes. ReImagine is giving away FREE local and organic tomato plants to West Shore folks who want to grow their own, along with all the juicy details on how to grow ‘em. All we ask is that you let us know how you enjoy the experience by keeping us posted about your growing journey via our social media channels, email, or at our pop-up community events! Bite back against rising grocery costs!
Free Community Food Workshops: Learn practical skills to grow, harvest, prepare, and preserve local food. These workshops are led by experts and passionate community members ready to share their knowledge and techniques. Covering everything from Building Incredible Soil and Composting Basics to How to Grow Your Own Food 101, Hot Water Bath Canning and Planning Your Year-Round Veggie Garden, we’ve got you covered with terrific programming provided by the Compost Education Centre! Visit our Events Page to sign-up for a free workshop!
(CANCELLED) Harvest Supper and Food Bank Fundraiser: Sadly, ReImagine did not receive the funding required to successfully deliver this feature of the planned initiative in 2025. We will review the possibility of organizing this event again in the future.
