Calling All Farmers, Farm Gate Folks, and Local Food Purveyors!

Want to connect with more local folks looking for food? Get listed on our new Farm to Fork map showcasing Metchosin and West Shore food producers, processors and other local agriculture and food opportunities!

ReImagine West Shore is working together with the RUSH Initiative and the University of Victoria’s Geography Department to get the community involved in mapping food infrastructure in the West Shore.

In addition to contributing to the “Eat Local” tab on RUSH’s map (covering the Greater Victoria area), a handy Metchosin & West Shore Farm to Fork map will also be produced, specific to our unique area.

This map will be both digitally and physically available, to help connect more people with our growing region’s terrific local food producers as well as events and opportunities to learn how to grow, prepare and preserve more of their own foods, too!

The Farm to Fork map is part of ReImagine West Shore’s community food security collaboration with the District of Metchosin, City of Colwood, Metchosin Grown Society, the RUSH Initiative, University of Victoria’s Geography Department and other community groups passionate about local agriculture and food.

Bite Back: "Farm to Fork" Initiative Takes Aim at Local Food Security

ReImagine West Shore is thrilled to announce the launch of their “Farm to Fork” initiative – rolling out activities and events throughout 2025, which kicked off with West Shore Seedy Saturday on March 8th at Belmont Secondary School in Langford.

Farm to Fork is focused on boosting our region’s food security. This collaborative, community project aims to connect local farmers, producers, and consumers while also empowering residents to grow and enjoy their own fresh produce.

Join us as we sow the seeds of change, enrich our lives with local flavours, and grow a sustainable food future together!

Key Features of the Initiative:

West Shore Seedy Saturday: Get started on your gardening journey with our 2nd Annual West Shore Seedy Saturday on March 8 (11am-3pm; Free or By Donation) at Belmont Secondary School. Buy your seeds and plant starts for the season, exchange seeds with fellow community members, learn the basics of growing your own produce, listen to expert speakers, and discover the joys and $avings that come with home-grown food. A collaboration with Flourish! School Food Society.

Community Mapping Happenings: Help us identify and plot every farm, farm gate, community garden, pollinator garden, and food-supporting spot on the growing West Shore! Our first Mapping Happening of the project takes place at West Shore Seedy Saturday on March 8th! Or folks can get on the map by completing our online form (see the button above).

The mapping initiative is a collaborative effort to highlight and utilize the resources our community offers in support of local food and agriculture. A collaboration with the RUSH Initiative and the University of Victoria’s Department of Geography (The Map Shop).

Metchosin/West Shore Farm to Fork Map & Local Food Event Calendar: Sharing vital inputs from the Mapping Happenings and our online outreach, we’ll be sharing our map (online and in print) over the summer to help folks discover the rich tapestry of farms, producers and other local food assets. The map will serve as a vital tool in supporting our local agriculture economy, helping customers make informed choices that are good for both their health and their wallets. A collaboration with the District of Metchosin’s Agriculture Advisory Select Committee, Metchosin Grown Society, the RUSH Initiative and others.

West Shore Tomato Challenge: Whether you’re a green thumb or a gardening novice, our Tomato Challenge will show you just how simple and rewarding it is to cultivate your own tomatoes. ReImagine will give away FREE local and organic tomato plants to West Shore folks who want to grow their own, along with all the juicy details on how to grow ‘em. All we ask is that you let us know how you enjoy the experience by keeping us posted about your growing journey via our social media channels, email, or at our pop-up community events! Bite back against rising grocery costs! Sign-up online now on our Events Page – the first batch of seedlings will be shared on Saturday, April 26th at Westshore Town Centre.

Free Community Food Workshops: Learn practical skills to grow, harvest, prepare, and preserve local food. These workshops are led by experts and passionate community members ready to share their knowledge and techniques. Covering everything from Building Incredible Soil and Composting Basics to How to Grow Your Own Food 101, Hot Water Bath Canning and Planning Your Year-Round Veggie Garden, we’ve got you covered with terrific programming provided by the Compost Education Centre!  Visit our Events Page to sign-up for a free workshop!

Harvest Supper and Food Bank Fundraiser: We are also working to cap off the Farm to Fork initiative with a community celebration in the fall. The Harvest Supper is intended to spotlight the bounty of local producers in the creation of amazing international dishes and support our local food bank through a fundraiser to combat food insecurity. A collaboration with the West Shore Arts Council and others.
